چکیده

We analytically prove that the error in the channel idle time-based collision probability estimation in face of non-saturated stations is bounded by 2/(CWmin+1) in the IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs (WLANs). This work explicitly quantifies the impact of non-saturation, and the result vindicates the use of the estimation technique in real-life IEEE 802.11 WLANs, in such applications as the acknowledgement-based link adaptation and the throughput optimization through contention window size adaptation. key words: IEEE 802.11, collision probability, non-saturated model, contention window, clear channel assessment

Achieving performance enhancement in IEEE 802.11 WLANs by using the DIDD backoff mechanism

Wireless local area networks (WLANs) based on the IEEE 802.11 standards have been widely implemented mainly because of their easy deployment and low cost. The IEEE 802.11 collision avoidance procedures utilize the binary exponential backoff (BEB) scheme that reduces the collision probability by doubling the contention window after a packet collision. In this paper, we propose an easy-to-impleme...

Collision-Aware Backoff Mechanisms for IEEE 802, 11 WLANs

The distributed coordination function (DCF) is the most widely deployed medium access control (MAC) protocol for IEEE 802.11 WLANs. It is a carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) scheme which employs a binary exponential backoff (BEB) algorithm to reduce the collision probability. In this paper we propose a novel backoff algorithm, collision-aware backoff mechanism (CA...

State Dependent Attempt Rate Modeling of Single Cell IEEE~802.11 WLANs with Homogeneous Nodes and Poisson Packet Arrivals

Analytical models for IEEE 802.11-based WLANs are invariably based on approximations, such as the well-known decoupling approximation proposed by Bianchi for modeling single cell WLANs consisting of saturated nodes. In this paper, we provide a new approach to model the situation when the nodes are not saturated. We study a State Dependent Attempt Rate (SDAR) approximation to model M queues (one...

Enhancement of VoIP over IEEE 802.11 WLANs by Adapting Transmitting Interval

VoIP over wireless local area network (WLAN) is an important application of WLAN and gaining more and more attention recently. In this paper, we analyze the maximum number of VoIP calls in WLAN and propose a new call admission control strategy, namely, adaptive transmitting interval call admission control (ATICAC) to enhance VoIP calls in 802.11 WLANs. In ATICAC strategy, Base Station (BS) adap...

Collision Probability in Saturated IEEE 802.11 Networks

In this paper we study the impact of channel capture following a busy period on collision probabilities in a saturated IEEE 802.11 network. A new analytical model that takes into account the previous channel status is proposed to obtain collision probabilities. Using simulation, we show that the well-known fixed point analysis, which is a special case of the new model, becomes more accurate as ...
